1992 yılında Mersin Üniversitesinin kurulmasından sonra, Bölümümüz lisans ve yüksek lisans öğretimine 1994-1995 öğretim yılında başlamıştır. 2005-2006 eğitim öğretim yılında atölye ve laboratuvarlar öğrencilerimizin kullanımına açılmıştır. Yüksek Öğretim Kurumu tarafından bölümümüze her yıl 72 öğrenci kontenjanı ayrılmaktadır. Makine Mühendisliği Bölümünde uygulanan lisans programı ile öğrencilere, malzeme bilgisi, tasarım, bilgisayar destekli tasarım ve imalat, çizim teknikleri, imalat yöntemleri, kontrol sistemleri, mekanizma bilgisi, ısıl sistemler, enerji ve otomotiv ile ilgili tüm alanlarda verilen temel bilgiler yanında, mezunlarına kişisel yaratıcılık, girişimcilik, yeni teknolojileri izleme ve geliştirme yetenekleri de kazandırılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Hedefimiz, ülkemizin Makine Mühendisliği alanında, önde gelen eğitim-öğretim ve araştırma kuruluşlarının içerisinde yer almaktır.
