Çevre Mühendisliği Bölümümüz 1993-1994 Eğitim-Öğretim yılından itibaren öğrenci almaya başlamıştır. Bölümde farklı uzmanlık alanlarına sahip öğretim elemanları (https://www.mersin.edu.tr/akademik/muhendislik-fakultesi/bolumler/cevre-muhendisligi-bolumu/programlar/cevre-muhendisligi/ogretim-elemanlari), teknisyen ve sekreter olmak üzere 16 personel görev yapmaktadır.

Öğrencilerimize Çevre Mühendisliği alanındaki çalışmalarına yön verecek temel dersler teorik ve uygulamalı olarak verilmektedir. Ayrıca son sınıf öğrencileri lisans tezi hazırlamak üzere Bitirme Projesi I ve II dersleri, Mesleki Yabancı Dil dersi de görebilmektedir. Lisans teorik dersleri Mühendislik Fakültesi dersliklerinde,  laboratuvar dersleri öğrenci laboratuvarı ile 2 genel araştırma ve 16  özel araştırma laboratuvarında sürdürülmektedir.  Staj uygulamaları öğretim üyelerinin başkanlığında laboratuvarlarımızda ve özel sektörde yapılmaktadır. Ayrıca koşulları sağlayan öğrencilerimiz kampüs içerisindeki Mersin Teknopark'ta yer alan ARGE şirketlerinde işyeri eğitimi kapsamında çalışabilmektedirler.

Bölümümüzde öğrencilerimizin iş dünyasında rekabet üstünlüğü elde edebilecekleri, iki farklı iş disiplini öğrenebilecekleri ve disiplinler arası çalışabilme fırsatı bulabilecekleri çift anadal ve yandal programları bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca yurt dışında yaşama ve öğrenim görme deneyimi kazanabilecekleri erasmus programımız bulunmaktadır.

4 yıllık lisans eğitim-öğretimini tamamlayan mezunlarımız Çevre Mühendisi unvanı almaktadır. Mezunlarımız Çevre ve Şehircilik, Sağlık, Gıda Tarım ve Hayvancılık, Bayındırlık ve İskan Bakanlıkları, İl Bank, DSİ, Belediyeler, Üniversiteler ve Özel Sektörde çalışabilmektedir.
 
Çevre Mühendisliği Anabilim dalımızda mühendislik alanında lisans diplomasına sahip mühendisler için yüksek lisans ve doktora programı bulunmaktadır.  Yüksek lisans programımızdan mezun öğrencilerimiz Yüksek Mühendis ve Doktora programımızdan mezun olan öğrencilerimiz Doktora unvanı ile mezun olmaktadırlar.
